Testing with latex

I have drawn up a rough design for the upper body, which includes a sort of collar, inspired by birds wings. I have thought about the different ways I can make this using different materials, and decided to try sculpting a very basic shape with wire, and then pouring latex over the top to create a 'skin'

After doing this, I could then use a glue gun to create a pattern on top of the latex, and paint it.

                                  

After creating this piece, I have decided that it doesn't work very well and will be trying a different material to achieve my vision. I will probably test with buckram, as it is a sturdy material that I can mould into any shape easily.
